jql wildcard

how to use a wildcard with JQL searches across components like:

component in "xyz*"

to match all components beginning with xyz

I'm afraid you can't. Components are single objects, the JQL looks for their whole label. Wildcards only really work for text.

I've worked around that in a couple of ways before, but none of the stuff I've done was particularly clever or well suited.
