jira how to get rid of the old filter history

Even though I create a new filter, old search criteria history is still there. then I will get a 'search is too complex' kind of message.

how can I start out with a clean filter?

Hi Paul,

which version of JIRA do you use? (For JIRA 5.2.+) Does a click on "new filter" not reset all filtered settings, or do I misunderstand your question? If so, maybe you can provide more specific information.

when I click new, I get all the history for a different filter
