jira fields (affect version vs fix version)

So I finally started noticing the behavoir of the affect(s) version and the fix(es) version fields which leads me to believe I am using them backwards. Can someone verify for me the way they should be used.

I put the unreleased version in affect version field and since I am fixing the previous version I put the released version in fix version. Do I have these backward?

Yes, it should be the other way round. Affect(s) version shows the version where it was affected (found) and Fix version shows the version where it will be fixed.
