jira - email submission vs service desk

So we have jira and jira service desk. I send an email to both.

email:

This is a test email.

In service desk the email retains the format that I have sent above.

However, in jira the result is:

This is a test email.

[1]https://community.atlassian.com

However, if I copy and paste the email format into the jira interface it retains the original email format.

Question: how do I get jira to retain the email formatting so that I don't have to copy and paste the desired format into the issue.
