how to write a filter for the backlog for stories with 'done' or 'cancelled' statuses?

Hi,

I started to take over an old JIRA board that has many stories/tasks that are marked as 'cancelled' and 'done' but they still appear in the backlog view.

How can I remove them from the backlog view?

I assume I need to create a custom filter but I am not sure how to write this filter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
