Dear Jira team,
I've successfully imported issues into Jira using the CSV import feature. however, I'm now looking to update existing Jira issues by importing an updated CSV file. I'm expecting the process like this: 1) I export issues from Jira as a CSV, 2) update the necessary fields in the CSV, and 3) import the modified CSV back into Jira, resulting in updates to the existing issues rather than creating new ones. I tried for many times and it comes creating new issues from my CSV. Has anyone experienced on this and any solution? thank you very much.
You need to be an Product admin to update the issues through CSV.
If you are product admin, Export issues to CSV based on Filter. And update the required details in that CSV. go to External system import and choose CSV from system option and Don't forget to map Issue key as it will be important to identify which issue you want to update.
Then update required fields you want to do like summary, description, labels etc and choose import. That's it
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, what I am curious is that why this feature only available to product admin? the working level is more likely to use that and improve the efficiency.

Hello, Good day. You need to have Jira product admin permission. If you click on settings icon in top right corner, do you have all the listed options?

Hi Mohan, thank you for your feedback and think I am not the product admin. But could you please let me know why this function is only available for product admin? I think we working level is more necessary of using this function which will improve much efficiency.

Hello @Brandon Zhu
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
The ability to update issues via CSV import is available only to Jira Product Administrators through the External System Import function.
Do you have that level of access?

Hi Trudy, I am the project Admin, but I also could not change the issue through CSV.

You need to have Jira Product Admin access. Project Admin access is not enough.

Hi,
just worked today with the CSV import. It seems the "new experience" CSV Import is not using the Keys to map to existing items - it just imports all as new ones.
However the old CSV import still works as expected (have used this feature often in the past).
Just want to know if this behavior will be kept in the new import experience?
Thanks
Marco

Hello @Marco Behr
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
An article on the New import experience was published here in the Community in 2024. Several people asked about the ability to update existing issues. In 2024 the response from Atlassian was that they were still thinking about that.
I encourage you to provide feedback directly to Atlassian on this topic using the Help > Feedback option available directly within Jira.
There is also a sub-task in their backlog for this to which you can add your vote.
