how to remove or revert exposure to new compass components behavior

we have a problem that components now appears to be a required field, its not required in our screens or field configurations and the behavior appears to be due to introduction of compass component functionality.

where can we disable that new functionality, keep it hidden and revert back to our non-required components field behavior on story creation?
