We were originally using internal Jira accounts for contractors, however they were given domain accounts for various reasons.

The LDAP sync overwrote the original internal user with an AD user, which is fine, however now when searching the user name in the 'Assignee' list it shows both the old and new.

When I search the user's name in the admin user search only 1 shows up.

In order to fix this you have to disable the users in your internal user directory. Jira reads the user directories from the top until it finds the user, and once that is done it ignores any duplicates.

So here is how I would fix it:

  1. Login as an admin and move the internal user directory to the top
  2. Disable the duplicate users in the internal directory
  3. Move the AD user directory above the internal one
