how to enter Original Estimate values?

I had our JIRA admin add the Original Estimate field to our Create screens so we can submit time estimates for a given issue. I want to use this to compare estimates to actual time spent to assess how well we're doing understanding the work we have.

Atlassian's help says this field takes the same value and formats as the Log Work fields, e.g., 2h, 1d, etc. However, when I go to create an issue and enter a value in this field, I tried entering 8, 2h, 1w, and all gave me an "invalid number" error. Is there some configuration error our JIRA admin did?

It sounds like they've added a number custom field instead of the original estimate.

Get them to check that the field is "timetracking" on the screen.
