how to create an automation reminder to the requested participant

Do you know if there is a way in Jira for automated responses to be sent after a certain amount of time passes? For example, we give 48 hours for a form to be completed and returned back to us. Can Jira send an automated reminder to the Requesting Participant before that 48 hour mark, for them to follow up with completing the form.

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Yes, you can do this with Automation. If you go to Project settings > Automation and look at the templates there is a rule that closes the request due to inactivity that you can use as a starting point. 

All you have to do is change the JQL that is associated with the schedule and remove the transition step.
