how to Upgrade Jira Server from 8.4.2 to latest

Hello,

my customer asked me to upgrade Jira Server to latest release. They have an old version (8.4.2) with some plugin installed.

I haven't skilled resources to perform the case study so i would like to know:

- can I install directly the latest release or i need to install step by step all the intermediate patches?

- I have to expect problems caused from deprecated fuctions? can u tell me the most important changes occured in these years?
