When deciding to move to Jira, I made some example projects to show my team to help them decide to make this move or not. I used the name 'Engineering' for an example project that I later deleted. Now that I am setting up my real project, it won't let me use the name 'Engineering'.
Is there a way to change the name of the deleted project? Or restore it to change and then delete it again?
Thank you for you help!
The project name can be the same; what you can't reuse is the project key.
So for example, when you created the original Engineering project, Jira assigned a key, probably something like ENG. If you create a new project and name it Engineering, as long as you change the key to something else (like ENGI, or NG) it should let you create the project.
I just tested this with an old demo project I had set up and it did allow me to use the same name.
thanks @Esther Strom
unfortunately i am still seeing an error message when i try to use the same name. I do think i found a (not great) way around it though. If I add a space at the end of 'Engineering' I am able to use it.
I also finally found the 'trash' but restoring it didn't work...

OK, if your original project is still in the trash, that might be what's causing it. Can you go to the trash and completely delete it?
