delete logs -JIRA application logs and catalina.out

yogita chhaya December 12, 2017

I want to delete all application server logs and tomcat logs at  every restart of JIRA

We have JIRA-6.4 installed on LINUX platform.

Can anyone share a script for the same?

Hi,

Thank you Nic.

I want to know which all logs can be safely deleted manually?

There are multiple LOG files in location in VAR and OPT folder.

Does anyone know how to do 'log rotate'?

Yogita

Any that are not currently being written to can be deleted.  But you will regret it when something goes wrong if you delete too many.

Have a look at the logrotate docs for your Linux distribution, they should tell you how to set it up sensibly.

No, you don't.  Those logs can be useful for troubleshooting and monitoring, so you don't want to delete them.

You probably should look into "log rotate", so that you clear out older ones and retain the last 3 to 5.
