default field configuration is changed when I make screen changes on a custom field configuration it

I am trying to create a custom field configuration for my new field configuration schema. Each time a customize the custom field configuration screens for fields, it also change the default field configuration.

1. I have associated my new custom field configuration with the scheme.

2. I have associated my project with this scheme

3. I have set the default for this scheme to be my new custom field configuration.

I cannot get it to work and would love some help
