One of a developer has been assigned a task with 2 story points as the estimate which equals to three days of effort. First day he started working on the task. The next two days he was on leave due to sickness and the 3 days effort for that story is over. Now the developer is asking whether to reduce the story point from 2 to 1? What should i advice and how to adjust the time under the time tracking section in JIRA. In the Time Tracking section in JIRA it is showing as
Estimated : 3d
Remaining: 2d
Logged : 1d

Hello and welcome!

As a rule of thumb you don't change the Story point estimation, because it was an estimation of complexity at that time, done by a group of people from different experience levels.

A developer can however fill in the Remaining estimate when advancing on a story more rapidly than expected. This will result in a better calculation of your team's Velocity for future work.

What this means: Because your dev adjust the remaining, for future estimations you will know that your team delivers for example 20 points in 2 weeks, instead of 18 points that you believed earlier, resulting in more accurate estimations.

So let him adjust the remaining.

Hope this helps!
