create epic issue type

we are starting to use Epics.  I have created a board for the Epic, and now want to Create Epics and assign tickets to the epic.  However, when i go to create an Epic, on Issue Type drop down, i do not see "Epic" as an option.  Only Bug Story Task Improvement.  How do i add Epic as an option here to finish creation of the Epic?

Go to the project and look at the "issue type scheme". I suspect you will find it does not have Epics in there - you'll need to add them to the scheme to allow creation of Epics.
