change field type of an existing custom field

Hi!

i have hit a dead end while trying to figure out how to update the field type of an existing custom field. 

any help appreciated. Thanks!

Not really a surprise - you can't do it.

You will need to add a new field and remove the old.

that's sad! so it's like carving in stone. can't be undone. I ended up spinning a new field. Thanks for the response. Appreciate it! This was my first post ever on atlassian community. @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Not really, there's usually little need to change field types, and most people will never do it.  It's also a lot of coding for little benefit.
