can I remove epic link field from tasks and sub tasks

Hello,

I am trying to streamline our screens and have a lot of fields that do not apply to our issues. I would like to remove a lot of these. There is a note that says i should not remove the epic link field. What are the effects if i do remove it?

If the Epic link is shown on tasks and subtask unnecessarily, maybe it is a bug and needs assistance from Support. Please create an issue at support.atlassian.com and we'll take a closer look. How does that sound?
