Is there a way to see the epic burn down with items completed vs utilizing story points to calculate this?

Hi @Jessica Sullivan,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

This is possible in Jira via the Epic Burndown report available in your Jira dashboard/project. But to make it calculate by Issue Count, you have to reconfigure the agile board to use Issue Count as estimation method (in Board Settings > Estimation).

Another solution would be to use a plugin from Atlassian Marketplace. If you want to try a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers a Release Burndown Burnup Chart gadget that lets you display the epic burndown / burnup by any estimation method including Issue Count, without being necessary to alter your agile boards.

The same app offers a few other methods to visualize the epic progress by Issue Count or any other estimation type. For how to configure the gadget and more details see this article: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/App-Central-articles/How-to-display-the-progress-of-Epics-or-Initiatives-in-Jira-or/ba-p/2858840

Hope this helps.

Danut.

Hi @Jessica Sullivan  and welcome to the community.

If I understand your question correctly you just want to see the Epic burndown based on completed work items?

Unfortunately this is not possible, i think the main reason is that the prediction would be to coarse and not give a proper indication in resolution time for the Epic.

If you have only 10% estimated issues in the Epic the Epic will be based on the estimated issues even if your teams capacity is in fact much larger.

I hope this helps even if it wasn't the answer you were looking for.

Best regards,
/Staffan
