bulk upload stories does not update status

We intend to upload hundreds of stories associated to a bunch of different epics. The upload went on successfully, until we noticed that one field is not updated -- the status. Everything we uploaded are with "Open" status which should not be the case. The list came from a different tool and trying to move these information to JIRA. They've been worked on already so some of the are already completed, In progress, etc...but not definite "Open" for all.
Is there a way to reflect the correct status in the upload?
