Is there a way for me to require a custom field (let's say username) only for particular type of subtask? Thanks for the help!

Hi @Steph Hong and welcome!

If you want to make a custom field mandatory on a specific step in your subtask's workflow, you can solve this as follows:

1. add a transition screen on the relevant workflow transition

2. create a validator on the relevant status in order to validate that the custom field is not empty

This way, a popup including your custom field gets presented to the user if they trigger the transition. Also, an error message will be shown on the popup if no value is entered for the custom field.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the community, @Steph Hong.  👋

Please say more about a "particular type of subtask."  I.e., are you referring to a custom issue type you created?

I ask because subtasks are 'special' in Jira — and there is only one type of subtask. So, in general, if you create a custom field for a subtask, you are creating it for all subtasks.

The one exception would be if you are using a Team-managed project (vs. Company-managed projects). I am not 100% certain, but you may be able to create a custom subtask field for a particular team in a team-managed project (but I don't have time to confirm it right now, sorry).

Anyway, tell us more.
