Worklogs correction : negative worklogs

My team uses Jira DC (9.12) with Tempo plugin to track spent times per issue.

Monthly timesheets are extracted and uploaded to Netsuite for global company consolidation.

After timesheets extraction, the accounting team locks the extracted period using Tempo functionalities (timesheet approval + period lock), so that nobody can change the registered worklogs, thus maintaining coherent timesheets between Jira and Netsuite.

Problem : this process does not authorize posterior worklogs corrections, as no time on a locked period can be changed.

We would like to solve this problem by inputing corrective negative worklogs on an open period, so that any correction can be properly tracked : see details below in screenshot.

How can this be accomplished?

Hi @francois.dejonghe

You can't log negative time

The only option is to open the period, but you can only open the period as a whole, not for just for certain work items.

I have mentioned this to Tempo before, but this is not possible. (at that time)

I suggest to reach out to Tempo via their support to see if this is possible at this time.

Hi @francois.dejonghe

In Jira with Tempo, once a period is locked, worklogs in that period can’t be edited. To correct errors after the fact, a common approach is:

Open a new “correction” period – create a separate, unlocked period for adjustments.

Post negative worklogs – log negative time in the correction period against the same issues to offset the original entries.

Document corrections – add comments or a reference to the original worklog for transparency and audit purposes.

Coordinate with accounting – ensure that the corrected totals are reflected correctly in Netsuite without affecting locked periods.
