Why don't I see epic link in issue view?

Kevin Crommelin March 6, 2019

Epic link shows up when I create an issue or when I have the abbreviated view from the backlog, but when clicking on the issue and viewing it in the full view, the epic link isn't visible. I noticed that if I assign it an epic (from the non-full view), then I see in the full view, but when no epic is assigned the field is missing.

I believe I set everything up properly in all the places (field configuration, screen, screen scheme, and issue layout) but still no luck. I also don't have any particular controls on any issue operations, everything is default.

I normally can figure things out in Jira, but this one really has me stumped. Thanks!

Here are some screenshots showing what I mean: Screen Shot 2019-03-06 at 6.11.33 PM.pngScreen Shot 2019-03-06 at 6.11.51 PM.png

I can't set EPIC in "Create a new issue" dialog.

I have to close, click on the issue, and only then set EPIC.

Also, I can't find "Screens", maybe cause I'm on a team-project...  not sure.

Hello,

You should make sure that the Epic Link field is added to the issue view screen for this issue type (project settings -> Screens)

or use the Where is my field option (in you screenshot admin->Where is my field)

Hey Alexey,

Thanks for your reply! When I look at the screen I see Epic Link in there, see this: Screen Shot 2019-03-07 at 8.58.24 AM.png

Also, thanks for pointing out the "Where is my field" option. I looked into that and it seems to confirm that I have the field configuration and screen set up properly but just says that I need to set the epic to see it. I really want to be able to set it from that screen. It doesn't give me much more to go on and everything looks right to me so I am a bit stuck.

Also, again showing that all issue operations are default so I am not sure why different views would show different screens:

Thanks again for the help, looking forward to figuring this out.

Hey Alexey,

Thanks for the response. The "where is my field" was helpful, but I am still not seeing it. It is telling me that the epic link is set up properly in field config and in the project, but not being displayed because the value is missing. I want it to show even if the value is missing. Is this possible? If I click "edit" then I can add the epic link, but I want to be able to add it directly on the issue view.

Thanks!

You can not view a custom  field in the view issue screen, if this value does not have a value. You can not change it.
