Why doesn't a ticket I created show up in the Recent Work Items list?

I created a Jira ticket (MCM-21 for reference), and tried to set it up as a child to MCM-9.  I went into MCM-9, clicked on the + and 'Create a child item'.  Then I clicked on 'Choose Existing', and got a list of possible tickets I can use to become a child of MCM-9.  However, MCM-21 was not on the list.  Does anybody know why it wouldn't be there?

Hello, @Bill Arndt ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

In Jira, you can only select issues as children if they sit below the parent in the issue type hierarchy (e.g. Epic → Story/Task → Sub-task). I suggest checking if  MCM-9 and MCM-21 are on the same hierarchy level (such as both being Tasks or Stories), once Jira doesn’t allow you to nest one under the other.

Let us know if that was your case.

Regards,

Izabela

Yes, I do believe that is the case- they are both tasks.  I will get my supervisor (I don't have rights to change that) to change it, and it should be good to go after that.  Thanks for your help!!!!
