Why do two types views appear on my Scrum/Kanban Board?

Brian Dilts February 15, 2022

Currently, in an active sprint board, my board shows issues as cards but some issues are not displayed as cards at the very top. I cannot figure out the difference between them that is causing this.

It appears that you have swim lanes by stories. If you will note there is a carrot > beside each of your stories if you click on them they will expand into the underlying subtasks which will then be viewed as cards. the everything else is already expanded illustrating the cards.

This is the typical display style when Swimlanes have been defined for your board. Go to Board Settings > Swimlanes to see how the swimlanes have been configured.

The ">" character to the left of the issue keys indicates that the information can be expanded.

It looks to me like your Swimlanes may be configured to the Stories setting, which will separate each story into a swimlane that can be expanded to show its subtasks. For any Story that doesn't have subtasks, and any other issue that is not a Story, those issues will display in the Other Issues swimlane.

Thank you Trudy! Great explanation of the solution too! I knew where to go this time but it is always nice when someone gives the `steps to solution` for the problem.
