Why do issues created via global Create go to Backlog in team-managed Kanban?

In a team-managed Kanban project, issues created using the global “Create” button always go to the project backlog, even when the issue’s initial status matches the first board column.

When issues are created directly from the board column, they appear on the board correctly.

Is this behavior intentional, and are there plans to allow globally created issues to be placed directly on the board (or offer a configuration option)?

Steps to reproduce:
1) Go to a team-managed Kanban project
2) Click the blue global “Create” button
3) Select issue type with default status matching first board column
4) Observe the issue appears in Backlog instead of on the board

Hi Tasha,

This is default behavior for Team-managed projects, and another reason not to use those. Regardless, you can create an automation rule that will move the work item to the board automatically if desired. See the screenshot below. Add any Conditions you want if not all created work items go automatically to the board.

Hello @Natasha Vieira

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community!

That's correct behaviour when the Backlog feature is enabled for Team-managed projects.

You can find more details here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/enable-the-backlog/.

To prevent new work items from being added to the Backlog, you can disable the feature by:

  1. Navigate to Space settings.

  2. Select Features.

  3. Disable the Backlog feature.

I hope this information helps :)

Thank you!

Hi Swathi, thanks for the quick support!

However, for some reason, the Backlog doesn't appear in the Feature section when I check in the Settings. So there's nothing there for me to disable.

Hey @Natasha Vieira

Can you share a screenshot from the Features page?

Thanks!

I've also tried to do what is written in the message, to click on the 3 dots and remove the backlog from the project, but that doesn't disable the backlog feature, it only hides the backlog option at the top.

Hi @Natasha Vieira

Based on your replies to @Swathi Acharya  you are on a Free plan, then this features are not available.

You will need a paid subscription to be able to use these features.

Hi Marc, that's strange, because I am using this in my company's instance - https://agile-robots-ag.atlassian.net/, I'm pretty sure we have paid subscriptions.
