Why do I see items from last sprint in my current sprint?

Merel Roest June 27, 2018

Dear community,

I just started using Jira in my department. Yesterday we closed our first sprint and we opened our second sprint. I think I did not close the sprint the right way, because I can still see issues from the last sprint in my current sprint in the "done" section. Its like we moved the "done" issues to the current sprint. I only want to see the items of my current sprint, because the other ones are already done.

In the print screen below you can see the items in the done section that were actually part of our previous sprint.

When opening an issue from last sprint, I can see that it is now part of my second sprint. How can I remove these items and how can I prevent doing the same thing in next sprint?

Hope you can help this n00b ut! :)

All the best,

Merel

Hi Merel

Your screenshots aren't showing, but I may be able to answer without them.

It sounds as though these items, although "Done", are not "Resolved". Can you check the Resolution field for one of those items? You need to check that as part of your workflow, at least one transition (usually as an item moves to the right-most column, but not always) sets the Resolution field. If I'm right with this and you don't know how to set the resolution, let me know.

Hi Warren,

Thanks for your reply! I cannot find a resolution field when opening an old issue.

If I go to Settings > Issues > Resolutions, I see the following information belonging to done: "Work has been completed on this issue."

Is this what you mean?

Hi Merel

That setting just shows the possible Resolutions, WHEN you're able to set them, which I don't think you are yet.

You need to edit the workflow for your project (or get an Admin to do it if you're not one) and add a screen for the final transition (to the last column). On this screen, you will add the Resolution field, which automatically shows as mandatory.

When this is done, as you drag an item to the last column, the screen pops up and you have to choose a Resolution. As long as the Resolution field has a value, the key will be shown as strikethrough and it will really be Closed.

Alternatively, see https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/How-to-automatically-set-issue-Resolution-to-quot-solved-quot/qaq-p/442222 for advice on setting the Resolution automatically.

Good luck
