Why I can archive the parent ticket but not the sub-task?

Hi Guys!

I hope everything is fine,

I am currently trying to archive some tickets, and I noticed that I can only archive the usual issue types but not the sub-tasks. Can somebody confirm if this might be a bug from the Jira side?

I would like to confirm that I am a Jira Administrator and we are currently using the Jira Data Center version 10.3.4

@Andy Valverde

Here is documentation on archiving.  https://support.atlassian.com/jira/kb/some-jira-sub-tasks-are-archived-without-their-parent-issue-being-archived/

From the documentation:

By design, it is not possible to archive a Jira sub-task individually without archiving its parent issue:

  • as explained in the documentation archiving an issue, archiving a parent issue (such as a Story, Task, Bug...) will automatically archive all its subtasks

  • there is an open feature request tracked in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-70638 which is meant to add the ability to archive a subtask without archiving its parent issue
