Which is the toughest Atlassian exam?

Chaitnya BK

Hi everyone,

I’m planning my Atlassian certification roadmap and wanted to hear from people who have already taken multiple Atlassian exams.

In your experience, which Atlassian certification exam is the toughest, and why?

I’d love to know:

  • Which exam you found most difficult

  • Whether the difficulty was due to scenario-based questions, time pressure, or depth of knowledge

  • Any surprises compared to expectations or study guides

Your insights will really help me (and others) prepare better.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Chaitnya BK ,

There's this forum discussion group, Training & Certification, where people tend to post their observations, prep. paths, and feedback about exams they have taken. There are some really useful posts about most of the exams (incl. new ones)

My view on exam thoroughness is probably not a realistic one, as I work with Atlassian apps 8-10 hours a day, so I believe they are all fairly easy 😅

As some other people said, it depends on what your stronger domain/area is and what you may have used or worked with that much. For example, if you're mainly working in Jira (software and business spaces), exams like ACP-620 and ACP-120 will probably be relatively easy compared to the JSM one (if you're not administering that part regularly). 🤔

My path was something like: ACP-620 > ACP-120 > ACP-520 > ACP-420 > ACA exams...
But if you haven't taken any exam yet, I would definitely recommend checking the new Atlassian Certificates. These are free exams where you can get a 'sense' of structure and what you could expect in paid exams. 👈

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Tobi

Hello, Good day. If you are looking to take certification specific to Jira app, then you can go to ACP 620 which has advanced feature queries. Thanks!

Hi,

I've spoken with several Atlassian-certified professionals, and while the "hardest" exam often depends on your background, many people consider the advanced Jira administration and enterprise-level certifications among the most challenging.

The main reason isn't necessarily the volume of content—it's the depth of understanding required. The tougher exams tend to focus heavily on real-world scenarios where multiple configuration options seem correct, but only one best aligns with Atlassian best practices. These questions test experience and decision-making rather than simple memorization.

A few factors that commonly make Atlassian exams difficult:

  • Complex scenario-based questions that require understanding the impact of configuration changes.

  • Questions that combine multiple topics such as permissions, workflows, schemes, and project administration.

  • Time management, especially when lengthy scenarios require careful reading.

  • Distinguishing between what is technically possible and what is considered the recommended solution.

One surprise many candidates mention is that official study materials can make concepts seem straightforward, while the actual exam often presents them in practical business situations. Knowing a feature exists is different from knowing when and why to use it.

What helped me most was working through realistic practice questions and reviewing explanations rather than focusing only on theory. I also used a combination of official Atlassian resources, community discussions, and practice questions from various sources, including ValidExamDumps, to expose myself to different question styles. The variety helped identify knowledge gaps that weren't obvious from documentation alone.

If you're planning a certification roadmap, I'd recommend starting with the certifications most relevant to your daily work. Practical hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence often has a bigger impact on exam success than simply studying guides.

I'd be interested to hear which Atlassian certification you're considering first.

I actually have the same issue and I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to plan my certification path with Atlassian as well. It’s hard to gauge which exams are genuinely the most challenging just from the official descriptions, since they all seem fairly similar on the surface. I’m especially curious about how much real-world experience plays into the difficulty, because some exams seem very scenario-heavy and not just based on memorizing features or terminology.

I’m also wondering how people handle the balance between time pressure and depth of knowledge during the exams. I’ve also noticed how tempting it can be for some people to rely on exam topics dumps when preparing for certifications like these, especially when the syllabus feels broad or repetitive. You can check more here https://examtopicsdumps.com/. Some study guides make things look straightforward, but I’ve heard that the actual questions can be more complex or require deeper understanding than expected. It would really help to hear from people who’ve taken multiple certifications about which ones stood out as the toughest and why, because I’m trying to prepare for the same journey and want to avoid underestimating any of them.

Hi @Chaitnya BK

In general the idea for beginners that start journey in certification is to evaluate ACA exams.. however now there would be more ACH certificates which are kind of old "badges" that do not require much preparation if you know the product..

ACP is is getting more difficult but again.. Currently there are a lot of good materials for free that this with some practice gives you everything to pass.

I remember my first exam.. it was when it all started.. Beta mode so it was 120+ questions 3h of time, a very long descriptions and in addition to that had to also provide feedback .. And there was not so many materials (only documentation and knowledge.. ) .. Since then it all evaluated a lot.. Platform also changed .. Kryterion changed to PSI.. now it would change to Certiverse..

Some time ago I wrote an article about how to gain new certificates step by step.. It is in polish but I guess you can easily translate in your browser if you want :)

Overall do not ba afraid.. just prepare and try to get your first one.. then you would want more ;)
