Which Jira (Not rest api) API call do I need to make to be able to use jql to create searches on issues?

I am creating a JIRA plugin  that will make a JIRA API call that can use jpql to get back a desired search result list.

I don't want to use rest here since I am going to deploy this to JIRA. I have been looking at the core api but haven't found anything that I can make a jqpl search on created issues.
