Where is the source in the description editor?

Clayton Rountree August 28, 2023

In Jira server, you could click the </> "Source" button and see the source of the description on an issue, allowing control/customization of format, etc. I do not have that anymore in Jira Cloud, and I desperately miss it.

Any reason its gone? It was supremely helpful, and I'd be very grateful to have it back.

Hello @Clayton Rountree

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

With Jira Cloud Atlassian needs to protect their servers from potentially malicious attacks. Being able to directly access and modify the source code behind the content of the Description field would, I assume, be a vulnerability.

You can use Markdown if you want to more directly control the formatting.

Thank you. Markdown is significantly less powerful it seems than the source HTML on Jira Server, but nonetheless provides some additional value beyond the normal text editor, so thanks!
