When will it be possible again simply to download attachments?

Deleted user

Currently to download an attachment it is required to go through the step of allowing Jira to try to display the attachment, an action that is guaranteed to fail unless the attachment is an image file (Jira will try to display the file, but since it's a bug tracking system it's obviously not equipped to display much of anything in any way that anyone is ever going to find useful).  It used to be possible to download the attachment without wasting time by having to take a step that is always going to fail.  When will that feature be restored and the current bug of forcing users to waste time be fixed?

Hello @[deleted]

Thank you for reaching out and sorry for the inconvenience that the lack of this feature has caused to you.

Per your description, I believe the feature you are talking about is the option to "Download all attachments" that is available in the old issue view but not deployed to the new issue view yet. Is that correct?

Indeed, the new issue view is still a lab feature in Jira Cloud application, so we are still working to get some of the old functionalities implemented on it. For the option to "Download all attachments", you can check the following feature request to track our progress to implement it:

Ability to Manage and Download All Attachments in New Issue View

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

As a workaround, you can turn off the new issue view by:

  1. Click in your profile picture at the left-bottom corner of Jira application > Settings
  2. Scroll down to the lab section and click to turn-off the new issue view

Let us know if you have any questions.

No.  It used to be possible to download the attachments I wanted to download.  I've never used a 'download all' option.

Hello @[deleted]

Could you please point out to us where would be the feature you are talking about?

In the old issue view, the only option to download an attachment without needing to preview it would be by right-clicking on it and selecting the option to open in a new tab.

Can you confirm if this is the option you are looking for?

Stop and think about that question.  You're asking me to point out where the feature is on a thread that was started with me pointing out that the feature has been removed?  I'll give you a minute.

Hello @[deleted]

Sorry if I was not clear in my last question or gave you the impression I'm not trying to help you. Please, allow me to elaborate better:

We are not aware of any previous functionality in Jira Cloud that allowed an attachment to be downloaded without displaying its preview.

Since you mentioned you saw this functionality in the issue view before, I asked you if you could point out (In case you remember) where that feature used to be and how it worked, so we could check with our PMs why this functionality was removed.

Know more details about this feature and how it used to work are essential to make it clear for our PMs that this is not a request for new functionality but a previous working behavior. This would put a higher impact and urgency for this feature than just a new feature request. Anyway, we have the following feature request to implement this option in the New issue view:

Ability to download an attachment without opening the preview in the new issue view.

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

Additionally, I mentioned to you that we have the option to download an attachment without needing to preview by right-clicking on it and selecting the option to open in a new tab, at the old issue view. Can you please confirm if this is the feature you are looking for?

In fact, I strongly recommend you to see if the feature you are looking for is not achievable in the Old issue view. The steps to switch to the Old Issue View are:

  1. Click in your profile picture at the left-bottom corner of Jira application > Settings
  2. Scroll down to the lab section and click to turn-off the new issue view

Let us know if you have any questions.

The old issue view allows me simply to right click and save.  No need to open anything anywhere.  It also saves with the actual name.  In the new issue view the only type that can be saved without Jira insisting on failing to open the file is an image and then it wants to save with whatever random name has been generated by Jira for the file rather than the original file name.  That means that I'd have to know the original file name to be able to refer to it when talking to whoever attached the image.  So removing the ability to save files without wasting time and throwing away necessary information.  Who at Atlassian has decided these sorts of bugs are good features?

Hello Craig,

Thank you for clarifying your request.

I completely agree there are some features missing in the new issue view and that's why it is still a lab feature that can be turned on and off in the application, where our developers are still working to get it fully implemented.

That being said, I believe there was no decision to add/remove this feature in the new issue view, but we are still addressing all the functionality needed and improve the ones that were not that good in the old view.

About this specific attachment behavior, we got already a significant amount of feedback and improvement requests so you can keep your eyes in the mentioned feature request for new updates about its implementation.

Thank you a lot for the feedback on this and please feel free to keep using the old view for now if it better meets your requirements until we got the new issue view fully implemented.
