When searching by Text within Jira what is it searching within the database?

Wondering if anyone knows if you are searching by Text ~ is it traversing all the columns/fields within Jira or is it just searching the description, comments, posts? Or are there other specific fields or areas that it is targeting? Are attachments being searched as well and are those indexed when attached to issues?

Welcome to the community!

The JQL field "text" as in text ~ "some words" searches an issue's Summary, Description, Environment, and Comments. It also searches all text custom fields.

Hi @v-kevin_leung 

JQL can only look for issues based on whether they have attachments or not, but it can't search by the name or type of those attachments.

• attachments IS NOT EMPTY  

• attachments IS EMPTY 

In the Atlassian marketplace you can find some apps that can help with advancing JQL like JQL Search Extensions for Jira
