When I view an epic, I'd like to see additional data (i.e. story points) in the 'Issues in Epic' section.  Is there any way to configure this?

I would suggest you either look at the epic on a board where you'll find the total estimates of the stories  or create a scripted field using Script Runner that calculates for example the total story points : https://jamieechlin.atlassian.net/wiki/display/GRV/Scripted+Fields
