When I Add users to a role, and choose a role, I want to see only roles for my project.

Unfortunately, Jira doesn't currently provide a way to limit the "Add users to a role" drop-down to only the roles that are used by the selected project. Since project roles are defined globally, the list always contains every project role in the Jira instance, which can become quite long in larger environments.

While this doesn't change Jira's behaviour, it can help to quickly identify the roles that are actually assigned to the project you're working on.

I'm part of the team that developed Roles Usage for Jira, which allows you to select a specific project and immediately see only the roles associated with that project, together with the users and groups assigned to each role.

The app provides two complementary perspectives:

• Project → Role → User/Group Relationships – start with a project and see all its roles, together with the users and groups assigned to each role.
• User/Group → Role → Project Relationships – start with a user or group and see all the project roles they belong to across the selected project(s).

Together, these views make it much easier to understand role assignments, perform governance or access reviews, and quickly identify the roles that are relevant to a particular project without having to inspect the global list manually.

The results can also be exported to CSV/Excel, making them useful for documentation, governance, compliance audits, or sharing with other administrators.
