What kind of Versions are shown in Jira Board?

We have many unreleased release versions, but only some are listed in the Version Filters in the Jira Scrum board. 

What are the criteria for a version to be listed here?

Are there any tasks in versions missing in the dropdown? That could be just the way to 'clean' the view a bit, if there are no issues related to that version anyways.

So filtering by version X wouldn't show anything, because there are 0 tasks in given version. 

Try adding some and let us know if that was the case

I thought that even if there are 0 tasks in the given version, the version can still be displayed in the Version list (I can find it while searching ... ). Is that correct?
