What is the limit of jira.search.maxclauses?

We have been running into various issues with Lucene Query similar to this issue

bumping up the jira.search.maxclauses seems to resolve the issue, however - we have had to do this twice... first time we went from 65000 to 150000.  the second time I have bumped it up to 300000 on a test server. 

the questions is what is the limit? and what is the impact to performance?

The default value is 65000. You can query the actual value, among other properties on your jira instance in the following URL:

http://<YOUR_SITE>/secure/admin/ViewSystemInfo.jspa

Regarding increase this value, I don't known how this will affect future performance of the system.
