What is the difference between (Feature) Child and (Child) Feature Links?

We have features in Jira, and epics underneath those features. What is the best way to link epics to those features? I am confused as to whether we should be linking epics as (Feature) Child, or (Child) Feature. What do the brackets signify?

Are you working with a Team Managed or a Company Managed project? It will say at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left.

Are you working with a Software project? That will be shown in the navigation pane at the top, below the project name.

It sounds to me like you have a customization in your environment. Feature is not a default issue type in Jira Cloud Standard. You may have created a new custom issue type for that directly, or you may have incorporated a third party app that added that feature and the Link types for linking it with other issues. Do you have some sort of third party app that you used to extend your Jira functionality and hierarchy of issues?
