What is the best way of upgrading from JIRA 5.1.5 to 6.4?

If you read the response from Arthur, he just went through all of this and figured out a proper upgrade path –

Just out of curiosity, if you're already going through the upgrade process, why are you stopping at JIRA 6.4 instead of going to one of the more recent versions?  Per Atlassian Support guidelines, Versions are only supported for 2 years (from the date of the initial major release, e.g. 6.4.0).  Considering 6.4.1 was released March 31, 2015, that means you will technically only have 4 months of support available.
