What does 'updated' include in a JQL?

I have 2 issues coming up in a JQL for both 'updated' and 'not updated' within the same time period.

Updated is the date / time of the last issue change: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/jql-fields/#Updated

If your JQL statement is not working as expected, please post your entire JQL statement as that will help the community offer suggestions to explain what you observe.

Until we see that...I hypothesize your JQL has a misplaced AND or OR keyword, or is missing some parentheses.
