Hi Team,
We’ve observed a strange workflow behavior in Jira Data Center affecting a single issue.
The issue is created in the New status.
When transitioning from New → In Progress, it incorrectly moves to Cancelled.
When transitioning from New → Cancelled, it instead moves to In Progress.
This behavior is happening only for this specific issue.
Other issues of the same issue type (Story) work correctly.
The workflow configuration has been verified, and newly created issues follow the correct transitions.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue before?
What could cause workflow transitions to behave incorrectly for a single issue?

You could run database integrity checker to see what you'll get as a response and will this particular item be listed there. 👀
You could also export the JSON of the affected issue and the workflow XML for analysis.
Also, have you tried reindexing to see if that will help?
If you can get the JSON and XML, you could probably share them with Atlassian Support so their team can check what's going on.
