We have one project/space. We have been running one sprint at a time. When each sprint ends, we end it and then start the next.
For example:
Our current sprint is sprint 3. Sprint 3 ends on 11/15
Our next sprint is sprint 4. Sprint 4 start date erroneously started on 11/13 - which overlapped with sprint 3 end date.
We started to see Sprint 4 tickets together with Sprint 3 on our execution board.
We noted this overlap and corrected the start date for sprint 4 to start on 11/17
However, our board still shows both sprints 3 & 4, when only Sprint 3 should be showing.
We can work through that using our backlog.
However, I am concerned when we close Sprint 3 on Monday 11/17 will that affect carry overs and/or our next sprint 4.
Not sure how this happened, but really hope someone out there can give some guidance.
Hey @Deborah Genevro ,
Firstly, welcome to the community!
A few questions:
If you click on "Complete sprint" from the active sprints board, you will still be asked which sprint you would like to close/complete.
Meaning, closing sprint 3 shouldn't affect sprint 4, which was accidentally started.
At the moment, there's no way to 'unstart' a sprint. You could adjust the dates (as you did), but I'm not sure if all reports will be unaffected.
An alternative would be to completely delete sprint 4 and recreate it.
Also, regarding this:
However, our board still shows both sprints 3 & 4, when only Sprint 3 should be showing.
Boards should have a Sprint filter, which you could use to display items from Sprint 3 only:
Lastly, if you're Jira admin, you can navigate to Settings > System > Audit log and search for "Sprint started" to see who and when started Sprint 4.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Tobi
Thanks for the welcome, but I've been here for about 10 years, just under different company emails - unfortunately.
JIRA Cloud. I used to be an admin, but in my current role I am not. Thanks for the tip to see who started the sprint (I hope it was not me :-))
Is this a system admin role or a project admin role? I am amending. System audit log.
Our board does not have the sprint filter, which is okay.
I asked co-pilot and our friend agrees with you that sprints started cannot be unstarted.
I presented the options to the powers that be and now thanks to you have backup from the community.

Hah, fair enough :)

It's Jira/app admin or, as you've called it, "system admin"
Project (now space) admins can access space settings, but there's no audit log there.
In any case, if there are any additional questions, feel free to write them down. ✍️
