We are having some issues with the filters on jira.

when we are running a report using the filters, four different people get different numbers at the same site.  We are looking for some training or guidance with the filters.

Hi @Evans, Jason

There are multiple reasons why that could happens, and all of the point to project permissions or issue security scheme. If a user doesn't have access to a project or an issue (via security scheme), the same filter will yield different results to that user and e.g. you.

If you elaborate more on the filter and the projects, we might be able to provide a more solid answer.

we are looking to pull a report on all completed/closed project for 2025 for the Bellevue lab and overland park lab.  four different people get four different numbers using the same filters at each site.

I agree with @Alex Koxaras -Relational- here
If you're running the same jql, the only variable is permissions

unless of course your jql has currentuser() function, but I feel like that would be too obvious

Hello @Evans, Jason

Adding to what the others have already said:

What do you mean by "site"? Are you talking about the Jira site, as identified by a base URL like https://yourCompany.atlassian.net? Or are you talking about physical sites where your users are located?

What is your definition of a "project"? Are you referring to the entities in Jira that are containers for issues/work items? Or are you using that term to mean something different?

Can you share the JQL statement for the filter that the users are executing?

we all have the same permissions for the Bellevue lab overland park lab.  i can double check on the permissions.

What do you mean by "site  Bellevue lab overland park lab

What is your definition of a "project" all of our assigned LABSD ticket we get for new installation projects.

You are calling "Bellevue lab overland park lab" a "site". We need to understand what the users are trying to access in terms of Jira.

Jira exists on a website. The website base URL will be something like

https://yourCompany.atlassian.net/jira

Are all the users access the same Jira web site?

You said that "project" is all of your assigned LABSD tickets. Is "LABSD" the key for the Jira project? Does each ticket have an identifier like LABSD-12345?

If LABSD is a Jira project, what kind of Jira project is it? click on the ... button to the right of the project name in the navigation panel on the left. What do the last two lines in the pop-up say?

Example:

We will also want to ask about how the permissions are configured for the project, and based on that we'll probably have specific questions about the users.

Can you identify two specific users that are getting different results for the same query, and get the screen images of their execution of the filter and the results set that show there are differences?

Can you share with us the JQL statement for the filter they are executing?
