Hi,

I am trying to create a report using Atlassian analytics with data from Jira. SQL tab works perfectly fine, but when i come back to visual tab it's in disabled mode.

b) I am trying to customize using line bar chart instead of bar line chart for my widget and it's not working, how to make it work?

c) In create button i don't have query as option available, it's just chart and dashboard as dropdown options

Do let me know if I need to have specific role in Jira/Atlassian analytics to get this modified

Hi Annapoorna,

This behavior usually happens depending on how the dataset or chart was created in Atlassian Analytics.
Here’s what’s likely going on:

  1. Visual tab disabled → If your dataset was created using a custom SQL query, the Visual tab becomes read-only. You can only use the Visual tab when the dataset is based on Visual Query Builder (drag-and-drop mode).

    • To enable it, create a new chart using “Create → Query → Visual” instead of SQL.

    • Then connect to your dataset again.

  2. Chart type not changing (line/bar) → For charts created from SQL-based datasets, you can only change visualization type within the SQL Chart view, not in Visual mode. Try clicking “Visualize → Chart type” in the toolbar instead.

  3. “Query” option missing in Create menu → This usually means you’re not a Workspace Admin or Analytics Editor.

    • Check under Analytics → Settings → Access Control if your role has Edit and Create permissions.

    • You may need your organization admin to grant you Analytics Creator permissions.

If your site is on Cloud Enterprise, your admin can confirm permissions under:
👉 Admin.atlassian.com → Products → Atlassian Analytics → Access management
