View different departments within the same board

We have have a managers jira board where different departments can roadmap and manage their respective user stories. 

Is it possible to categorize epics by department?  We would like to be able to view the roadmap by a single department or multiple departments together.

The boards can be mixed by creating a new one and applying a filter to include both. (you will be asked when you create it)

The second part of your question I don't know if I understand it correctly, but if you do what I indicated above you will be able to see how the other parts of the project react.

I actually was thinking of doing everything under one board.  Is that possible?  Or is that not a good idea?
