Using Jira / Confluence Data Center License on current Jira / Confluence Server Instance

We currently have Jira / Confluence Server instance without any current support as we switched over to Data Center license in hopes of quickly building it out. Things didn't go as planned with other projects so this is getting pushed back. 

While we wait to build out our Data Center Instances, am I able to apply the new Data Center License to the old/ current Jira/Confluence Server Instance to continue to have support? 

If anyone has done that before, did you have any helpful documentations? Did you have any issues with the conversion?

Generally speaking, yes, it is possible to apply a Data Center license to an environment that currently is using a Server license. Refer to this document:
