User is unable to see issues

I'm trying to set up a project where a Project Role has very limited access. Can only see issues assigned to them.

permissions I have set for that role:

Create Issue

Edit Issue

Assign Issue

Assignable user

Resolve issue

Link Issue

So i set up a couple practice tickets and assigned them to someone in this project role. But they are unable to see the issues. I will be having users in this project where i don't want them to know about each other. So can't have them looking at other issues in the project. only ones assigned to them.

Am i missing something? Is this possible?

Browse project seems to be missing. The user must be able to view the project st least. Please read this. https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+Issue-level+Security You will find other ways of restricting issues to specific users/roles/groups

I tried setting up an Issue Security but again, the user can't see an issue it seems unless I give them

Browse Projects permission. But this allows them to see other user's and tickets I dont want them to see.

You will need to set the Issue Security Level to restrict only Reporter and Assignee can see the issue. You may refer to this tutorial for practical example: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA052/Using+Project+Level+Security+with+Project+Roles

1. you have to allow "Browse Projects" to allow the user to see what's inside.

Explanation of "Browse Projects" says

Permission to browse projects, use the Issue Navigator and view individual issues (except issues that have been restricted via Issue Security)
