Hello,

Is it possible to leverage epics from a different project into a new project in Jira? For example, I have a board named "work request" with issues and I would like to move these issues to the new board "Infra initiatives" and assign in to sprints and change statuses in the new board. What would be the needed next steps here?

Thanks,

Michelle

Hello @Garcia,Michelle

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

Boards are just a way to view and manipulate issues. The issues themselves are stored in Projects. The issues that are displayed in the board are based on a filter, as Alex said.

The project that an issue is in is indicated by the first part of the issue key; the "ABC" in ABC-123.

For these two boards, are the issues from the same project or different projects?

Alex asked if your projects are Company Managed or Team Managed. When you are viewing each of these boards, you will see that information at the bottom of the navigation panes on the left.

As Alex mentioned, if the issues are in Company Managed projects you can change the board filter to make issues from both projects display in one board. With Team Managed projects it is not possible to change the filter used by the board.

Also, if the issues are in Company Managed project, it is also an option to make issues in one project children of Epics in a different project. The issues don't have to be in the same project.

If the issues are in different projects and you want them not only in the same board but also in the same project, you would need to move the issues from one project into the other project. If the issues are different projects and one of them is a Team Managed project, you would also have to move the issues from one project into the other project so that the Epics and child issues are in the same project.

If you need to move the issues to another project  you can watch this video for a demonstration.

Hi @Garcia,Michelle and welcome to the community,

You don't quite move issues to another board. You just have to change the filter what these boards are being populated. That is if you are working on company managed projects. So, are you working on company managed project, or team managed project? You should be able to see than on the bottom left corner inside your project(s).
