Use of React or Next.js in Jira Products

“Do Jira Server and Confluence Server products use React or Next.js in any part of their implementation?”

To my understanding, these Server products are primarily Java-based, and their frontend layers are built using JSP / Velocity / AUI.
However, we need an official confirmation or documentation from Atlassian to verify this.

Our questions are as follows:

• Do Jira/Confluence Server products use React?

• Do they use Next.js?

• Is there any official Atlassian documentation or reference that clearly describes the frontend technology stack?

We would appreciate an official response or documentation link.

Your understanding is correct. Jira Server and Confluence Server products are primarily built with:

1. Java-based backend (Spring Framework, OSGi)
2. Traditional frontend stack:
   • JSP (JavaServer Pages) - for view rendering
   • Velocity templates - for templating
   • AUI (Atlassian User Interface) - Atlassian's proprietary CSS/JavaScript framework
   • Soy templates (Google Closure Templates)

React is not in the native products , but casn be used in apps for the onPremise Products.

Server Products (Already EOL)

• Jira Server & Confluence Server: Support ended on February 15, 2024

Data Center Products (EOL Announced)

Atlassian announced the phased wind-down of Data Center products beginning March 30, 2026, with a 3-year transition period:

• December 16, 2025: No new Data Center Marketplace app submissions accepted
• March 30, 2026: End of license sales to new customers for Data Center products
• March 30, 2028: Last date for existing customers to purchase or renew Data Center subscriptions
• March 28, 2029: Final End-of-Life date - all Data Center support ends
