Upgrading from 6.4 to 7.x in JIRA. Do I need to be aware of any upgrade issues beforehand and what they are?

Does someone have a list or items which can cause upgrade to fail?

What are the challenges that arise if I don't upgrade JIRA Agile to the latest version before moving to JIRA 7?

From 6.4 to 7.1 is pretty straight forward, just the usual stuff:

Save a copy of your:

server.xml (http/https ports)

cacerts (ssl certs)

web.xml (depending on your customizations)

Do the add-on compatibility check, and disable all plugins not supported by the target version.

Once JIRA is upgraded, update UPM first, then upgrade all plugins.

And as usual, ALWAYS do it on a test-instance which is a 1 to 1 mirror of your production, before going ahead and doing it something production critical.
